Creative Close Up is a new feature series taking a closer look at the amazing work of the creatives who live and work in our district and beyond. In our first piece we showcase the work of local Illustrator Hannah Jane Lewin.
Tell us more about you and what you're all about?
Hi, I'm Hannah Jayne Lewin, a freelance illustrator based in Wakefield. I love drawing and creating fun characters to make people smile. My background is in children’s book illustration, but I have also worked on wall murals, licensing designs, and window art. My clients include Scholastic, Thortful and Cardly. I’m happiest when I'm drawing and I'm always excited by my next creative challenge.
What have you been up to this past year?
It’s been a really busy year for me as I have signed with a literary agent, painted a mural, and illustrated a book (Amazing me, Amazing You!) which published earlier this year. I have also been painting lots of sculptures for art trails all over the UK, which I’m delighted to say have raised over £60,000 for various charities! I’ve just launched my own online shop too (hannahjayneillustration.com) with fun and cheerful greetings cards for the young and young at heart. I have been working on some top secret projects as well, which I can’t talk about at the moment, but hopefully in 2024 I can share more
The new year is just around the corner, what have you got planned for 2024?
I’m really looking forward to 2024! I’m at such an exciting point in my career and I have so much to be thankful for to be able to run my own creative business! It’s a joy to spend each day doing the job I love. Next year I’m hoping to get some of my greeting card designs into local retailers in Wakefield and the wider Yorkshire district. I’m looking forward to Our Year in Wakefield 2024 as it’s always so inspiring to see communities come together and be united by creativity. I will be on the lookout for creative opportunities that arise in Wakefield as it’s always so lovely to be involved in projects locally and to see the impact my work has in my own local community.
