Light Up the North: Marketing & Communications Specialist

Posted in Opportunities

Light Up The North is a network of light festivals which have come together to share their collective expertise and to learn together. We work together to support artists, to commission new artworks, to carry out research and as a strategic consortium which supports the development of the light art sector.

We wish to appoint a freelance Marketing & Communications specialist to work with us to raise the profile of the network, extending its reach and showcasing our work, both as a network and through the network members’ festivals.

  • Reporting to: Light Up The North (LUTN) Chair
  • Contract dates: Jan 2024 to Sep 2024 inc, with potential extension
  • Fee: £200 per day (total fee available for 9 months: £6,000)
  • Working pattern: Average 3 days per month, flexible + remote

Person Specification

The Marketing & Communications Manager should have the skills and experience to enable them to fulfil the role, including copywriting, web and social media proficiency, some awareness of press, an ability to analyse data and make reports. They should understand Comms strategies and have the ability to develop the LUTN Comms strategy, reviewing developments and successes and setting targets.

They should be an excellent and strategic communicator, able to work within a complex environment, engaging with network partners.

The role requires a highly organised person who is excited about the chance to champion light festivals and engage artists, participants and partners, as well as audiences, with striking, innovative and creative communications.

The role provides the opportunity to visit light festivals and other related events.
The role requires (and also offers) a flexible approach. Whilst the LUTN network meets bi-monthly and there are opportunities, activities and a comms requirement throughout the year, the festivals take place in the autumn, winter and early spring months, which means that these will be the busiest months.

Application deadline: 15th December 2023, 5pm

Fee: The fee is based on £200 per day, and an average of 3 days per month, although it is expected that the workload will be weighted to the autumn months.
