One of the uk’s leading touring, events and set design organisations, with clients such as Taylor Swift, Cirque du Soleil, Nasa and Beyonce and a location in the Wakefield District’s Production Park, have opened applications for a new Scenic painter role! Scenic Painters are a vital part of the Scenic department and play a key role in Tait’s manufacturing process, producing paint finishes using different paints and methodologies to produce a variety of Scenic Art products. Essentially, a Scenic Painter’s role is to work alongside the Scenic Lead and other scenic employees supporting and assisting in the manufacture and production of scenic projects. Ensuring effective and efficient production whilst producing the high quality products the company expects.

Main Outcomes of the Position
  • Assistance in the Manufacture of scenically painted projects to supplied drawings.
  • Whenever possible you will be required to work on multiple projects with a variety of processes.
  • Maintain delivery of quality projects to scheduled department/Delivery dates.
  • Work with other departments to solve problems and improve efficiencies.
  • Use of individual training platform to facilitate personal growth.

Key responsibilities/Decision making authority

  • Read, interpret, follow drawings to create the look and feel as requested from the client.
  • Being able to understand instructions and support the Scenic Lead in the execution of all scenic
  • Ability to understand the diversity of colours / textures and calculate the amount of material/products needed.
  • Ability to use the tools independently within the department including spray guns and air compressors to a high standard.
  • An Understanding of different paints and texture materials.
  • Offer support and ideas at design/ prototype stages of projects
  • Assisting the Scenic Lead and, or other employees on site to ensure clients expectations are met. Being able to produce Paint finishes in difficult environments assisting in the requirements to stages whilst ensuring the companies standards and deadlines are maintained.
  • Be flexible to perform duties throughout other departments.
  • Engage in personal development programs/Training.
  • Operate within individual & team environment maintaining work ethics individually and alongside other team members.

Foundation / Position Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience and a good knowledge of basic scenic painting techniques.
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Experience in traditional fine arts skills of sketching, rendering, and painting
  • Well versed in techniques such as marbling, ragging, and wood graining and texturing, and should have a good understanding of art history, period styles, motifs and architecture
  • Ability to interpret designers’ small-scale ideas, and develop them into full-scale reproductions, perhaps even improving on the design during the process.
  • Experience working with a scenic workshop creating paint finishes on large 3D structures.
  • Ability to handle scenic painting materials safely.
