Welcome to Ossett Mural
Posted in Editorial
West Yorkshire artist Shiraaz Ali engaged with over 400 local residents to create a new three-panel mural titled ‘Welcome to Ossett’. The mural is installed on the side of Richmond’s Butchers, opposite Ossett Town Hall. Shiraaz worked with young people from Ossett Academy, and adults from Ossett Civic Society, Ossett Through the Ages, Trinity Church, and Visit Ossett.
The mural celebrates Ossett’s distinctive heritage: colourful weekly markets, stained-glass windows in the Town Hall and local wildlife like the peregrine falcon that visits Trinity Church’s spire.
Part of the legacy of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 and the ‘Crossings and Gateways’ programme. It was supported by Wakefield Council and investment from Arts Council England and West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The Producers / Project Managers for this project were BEAM.
