Fire & Ice

Andy Campbell

By Ithaca, brought to Wakefield with funding from Wakefield Council.

An immersive sound and light installation at Wakefield’s Former Market Hall, Fire & Ice allowed visitors to experience the dramatic changes already happening to Earth’s climate and the impact of our actions on the planet.

The installation evoked an emotional reaction from viewers, drawn from two opposing visual and sensory elements, that of Fire (the heat of the sun and the warming planet) and Ice (the shrinking polar ice cap, the diminishing natural world from the lack of climate balance).

The exhibit was part of Wakefield Council’s Festival of the Earth 2021, which brought over 30,000 visitors to the city centre.
