Wakefield Adult Education Service
Learning opportunities for adults aged 19 and over
Wakefield Council’s Adult Education Service offers learning opportunities for people aged 19 or over of all abilities and backgrounds.
We aim to break down barriers to creative learning and make it accessible for all – this may lead to employment (we have a great careers and progression team) or people often come and learn with us to improve their mental health & wellbeing.

We want to shout about the creative opportunities we offer – from sewing and pottery to jewellery making and art journaling. We have a good range of daytime and evening courses which may be free depending on each individual’s circumstances. We are one of the few adult education providers which offers industry standard qualifications (City & Guilds) and, as well as running courses from our purpose built studios in Sandal, we work across the district – with employers, in schools, living schemes and care homes – so if you are interested in working with us please get in touch!
Our class sizes are small, our tutors are local practising artists and the atmosphere in our classrooms is warm and welcoming – so why wait!
When we see people who have struggled to walk through our doors making friends, building confidence and creating beautiful pieces of art!
To continuously introduce art and creativity to the people of Wakefield.
