Barbara Larkin

Contemporary Artist

What I do:

Barbara Larkin is an artist living and working in West Yorkshire. Winner of the Benedict Read Acquisition Prize 2021 she explores the expression of memory as a form through watercolours, painting and drawing. She takes inspiration from the landscapes of the peaks and dales and her interests include art in support of wellbeing. This year Barbara will be developing artworks primarily focusing on painting, photography and drawing.

What steps I took to get where I am now:

Studied fine art and developed skills in a variety of media

What creative opportunities I'm looking for:

Collaborating with other artists, looking for a larger studio space and places to exhibit

My proudest moment:

I designed a postcard for the official visitors shop at Halifax Piece Hall which was my first art commission. I was also selected for the Benedict Read Prize at the end of my fine art degree, this artwork is now in Leeds Art Gallery picture library loan scheme
