Copywriters & content creators (She/her)

What I do:

I’m a copywriter and awards entry expert, with a background in communications and PR. Along with my amazing team, we tell business’s stories on their website, in promotional material, and in award entries.

We work with a wide range of clients, from micro businesses to international PLCs, writing, editing and proofing everything from blogs to annual reports, web copy to marketing collateral.

What steps I took to get where I am now:

My career in public relations taught me the value of stories. And you’re only successful in PR if journalists choose to publish your news, so you quickly learn what a great story looks like.

I absolutely love taking a messy ball of information and turning it into the written equivalent of a beautiful knitted jumper. Translating how people and businesses want to talk about themselves and getting to the heart of what they are about is what I’m happiest doing. I help companies develop their own tone of voice, adding a layer of sophistication to brand, which is usually only thought about in the visual sense (logo, colour palette).

I set up Wordsmiths in 2011 and have built a strong team of associates to deliver for clients, recently adding to our in-house resource with our first employee.

What creative opportunities I'm looking for:

We love to work with marketing agencies and in-house comms and marketing departments as their outsourced copywriting team. We bring specialist skills over and above what a generalist in an agency can.

We are also happy to talk to anyone about how awards might benefit them – although we talk lots of people out of entering awards as it isn’t the right thing to spend their time/money on if another tactic would deliver more. It’s how we maintain our integrity, but also how we’ve kept our >80% shortlisting rate since 2011.

An unexpected thing about me:

I have a medieval history degree and am still a bit of a history geek. On my bucket list is I an overnight stay at Hampton Court Palace!

My proudest moment:

Apart from my children’s achievements, publishing my book, Glory: The Magic Formula for Winning More Business Awards. (Find it on Amazon!)

My dream creative collaboration:

working with a marketing agency on a new brand, or a brand refresh to complement their visual work with our tone of voice skills. Then we can work together on a new website and all other browns collateral the client needs.

What does Wakefield mean to me?
It’s been home for >20 years and I love the rich history and creative culture we have.
