Wakefield’s City of Culture bid – Update

In July, we submitted a bid for the prestigious title of UK City of Culture 2025.

The Government has today confirmed that Wakefield’s bid has missed out on progressing to the next stage of the process.

There was an all-time high number of entries and we were one of a record 20 places from across the UK to do this.

Naturally we are disappointed, but we are also immensely proud. This has inspired the start of something truly special for our district and region.

Collaboration was at the heart of our bid, there is incredible talent within our district and together we will shape an exciting new future.

In 2024 we plan to hold a year-long festival that draws out and celebrates this district’s amazing culture and creativity that is in our DNA.

Our network and board will play a vital part in this compelling year of culture which will be built around our culture, heritage and creative industries together with our residents, communities and partners.

Look out for more news and opportunities to find out how you can be involved in Wakefield 2024.
